Looking for a great dentist who speaks English? Afraid of pain? No need to look further than Manta, where Dr. Victor Carreño, DDS, General Dentist and Oral Surgeon, along with his lovely wife, Jennifer, maintain a modern and efficient dental practice called TopDental. Dr. Carreño follows all American Dental Associates’ strictest regulations and methods of hygiene and biosafety. General dentistry, oral surgery and dental implants, orthodontic, endodontic and periodontics services and complete oral rehabilitation are offered, including crowns, inlays, on lays, bridges and veneers, using the highest quality materials such as zirconia and e.max porcelain ceramic, all of which are the exact same materials used in North America.
Dr. Carreño estimates that care in his office is typically 70-80% cheaper than in a dental office in North America, but you will receive the same type of service. He tells patients, “This is the treatment I would do for myself or for my mother.” Dr. Carreño wants you to feel “like family,”—comfortable and pain- free. He also offers conscious sedation with nitrous oxide to his patients. As he is certified in the use of laughing gas, there is no need for patients to pay for outside anesthesiologist assistance.
Dr. Carreño came from humble beginnings but grew up with great ambition. He was the first person to graduate from university in his family. He attended ULEAM in Manta, where he worked as a waiter to put himself through university as his family had little money for higher education. After a year of rural practice in Ecuador, he and Jennifer moved to Denver, Colorado to practice dentistry. After three years practicing dental services in Denver, he “became used to using the techniques and tools common to North America,” which he continues to use in his practice. Next, he completed a postgraduate clinical internship in general dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Professional Studies Program of the University of Puerto Rico (an American Dental Association accredited dental school).
After the internship in Puerto Rico, Dr. Carreño won a full scholarship to the University of Manchester School of Dentistry in the UK, and earned a Master of Science in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. While in Manchester, he won 1st prize in the annual competition, “Best Clinical Case Presentation,” winning against both national and international students and was the first Ecuadorian student to win 1st prize. Dr. Carreño believes in continuous learning in his practice, keeping himself up to date with the latest procedures.
In 2016, the Carreños, with a new baby daughter, Vivienne, moved back to Manta to open the TopDental office.
Due to his excellent skills in dentistry and uncommon customer service, Dr. Carreño won the WhatClinic 2018 Patient Service Award and was the first Ecuadorian dentist to qualify for this international award, which is based on patient reviews. It is awarded only to the top 2% of over 150,000 clinics worldwide. The entire office strives for excellent customer service, so this was a great honor for TopDental. Jennifer came to Ecuador as a foreign exchange student in 2009 while studying Economics and International Affairs at George Washington University. She returned here after her university studies to work with WorldTeach. Within two weeks, she met Victor, who was a friend’s dentist and fell in love. They have been married for 10 years.
Jennifer makes two trips a year to Denver and brings the latest in products back to the dental office. Dr. Carreño states that his equipment and all items for implants, grafts, etc., are sourced from either the USA or Germany. Crowns and dentures are fabricated in Quito, as he believes this is the best laboratory in Ecuador using CAD/CAM and 3D printer technology. The work is guaranteed. If you don’t like what the tooth looks like, the lab will continue to fashion it until you are satisfied.
THE DENTAL OFFICE CONSISTS OF FOUR ASSOCIATES
Dr. Carreño, Dr. Camilo Ortiz, Diplomate in implantology; Dr. Fanny Suarez, Orthodontist; Dr. Nicole Rivera, Endodontist.
Worried about dental treatment during a pandemic? Dr. Carreño says that dentists in North America have been practicing safe biological protection and sterilization even before the recent outbreak, and his office is no exception. Today, the office has implemented even more strict protections: wearing additional PPE, taking patient’s temperatures before entrance, staggering appointments so that few people are waiting in the waiting room together, leaving no magazines on tables, and sterilizing surfaces and footpaths before each patient.
TopDental maintains a sophisticated and detailed online website in both English and Spanish. People from all over the world searching for a dentist contact the office at least two to three times a week, requesting information about their services with regard to dental tourism. Dr. Carreño says that before the pandemic, he worked with at least one patient per month who traveled to Ecuador specifically for his dental care on their teeth. One patient came last year from Miami after being told by a dentist in the United States that he recommended having all her teeth pulled and then being fitted for dentures. Her North American dentist quoted a cost of well over $20,000. She was obviously not happy with this prospect, nor the cost. Dr. Carreño, after viewing the patient’s teeth, recommended a more conservative approach using a series of implants and crowns, and all at a fraction of the cost she would have paid if all work was done in the United States. Needless to say, the patient was very happy with the quality of his work, her new smile and that this all came with a vacation in Manta for considerably less than she would have paid in Miami. Dr. Carreño considers himself a conservative dentist who prefers to do little or no damage to teeth, and is proficient at creative techniques to preserve as many existing teeth as possible.
TopDental is able to provide all patients’ dental needs in one place.
